The 24-year-old impressed last season during a brief stint on the track, qualifying on the front row in two of his three appearances, before funding issues cut short his time with Eurotech Racing Honda.

But funding issues are no longer an obstacle at his new team, one of the leading packages on the grid, as they are backed by the prestigious Triple Eight Racing.

And to Triple Eight, an outfit with an unrivalled 22 titles since 1996, Lloyd is a familiar face having made his debut for them seven years ago while still a teenager.

Back then Lloyd raced against Aron Taylor-Smith, another familiar face who he now regards as a teammate, and the former Porsche Carrera Cup racer says he will be calling on his experience.

“I made my BTCC debut with Triple Eight back in 2010 and also raced against Aron in the Clios so it’s come back full circle,” he said. “He’s obviously a quick driver with a lot of experience so I’m sure there’s a lot I can pick up from him.

“I loved competing in the BTCC last year, it’s a massive championship, by far the highest profile racing series in the UK with live ITV4 coverage at every round,” added Lloyd.

Having raced in several support events while working hard through the ranks of the TOCA support package, Lloyd has built an impressive portfolio of sponsors and business partners, whose backing has enabled him to secure a seat ahead of his debut full season.

Grateful as ever, he added: “I have to say a big thank you to all of my sponsors who have helped me to get to this point.

“I’ve worked incredibly hard to get back. The last couple of years have been quite tough, moving around different series and championships.

“To have the chance to step up and join the MG factory team this season is a fantastic opportunity. It feels almost like a home-coming.”

Lloyd is the second Yorkshire-based driver to compete in BTCC in 2017 with Bridlington-based Senna Proctor also competing in a Vauxhall Astra for Power Maxed Racing.
