Daniel Tudhope - In The Saddle: Rousayan offers my best chance of winner at '˜home' track of Thirsk

Move In Time holds at entry in the top level Coolmore Nunthorpe during the Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival and that could be the next target if he comes back to his best form, after all he did go on to win the Prix de l’Abbaye for me two years ago.

A return trip to Paris could be on the agenda too as well as the £340,000 Group 1 at York on Friday, August 19.

On the subject of trips abroad, after his superb run by Mondialiste in the Group 2 Sky Bet York Stakes on Knavesmire last weekend, when he was just defeated by Time Test who carried the famous Juddmonte silks, a trip to Chicago and the Arlington Million next month could be on the cards for us.

Long overseas journeys don’t bother him as he demonstrated when winning a Group 1 in Canada 10 months ago before being the runner-up in the Breeders’ Cup Mile.

Both those came on the back of a victory last August at the Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival.

Out of my quartet of rides, I would venture that, Rousayan gives me my best chance of a winner when he goes for the feature totescoop6 Thirsk Summer Cup.

He has a lot of ability and won first time out this season at Beverley.

I start my afternoon in the 3.35pm handicap, a race that trainer David O’Meara seems determined to win judging by him having three runners. My choice is Alejandro, who can boast two York victories.

He’s been knocking on the door, including when fifth in the Novus Stakes at York a week ago and I think he is now well handicapped to win.

The yard also run He’s No Saint and Steel Train in the contest, with the latter performing best on quicker ground.

Kharbetation is making his debut in the 4.45pm maiden race, so who knows! While Highland Acclaim – my ride in the 5.20pm – can be a frustrating horse and he needs to rediscover the kind of form that enabled him to enjoy a run of three victories in 2014, including one at York.

At Doncaster tomorrow, David O’Meara runs Out Do who, like Move In Time, holds a Coolmore Nunthorpe entry. Andrea Atzeni covers for me in the saddle in the 4.40pm.

The Nunthorpe, the fastest race of the York season, is always a fascinating contest and the 2016 renewal is no exception.

Adding to the mix is American trainer Wesley Ward who retains two entries with both Acapulco, runner-up last year, and impressive juvenile with a resultant weight advantage, Lady Aurelia.

The field look set to face the defending champion, Mecca’s Angel, from Michael Dods’ County Durham yard and the regular mount of another locally based rider, Paul Mulrennan.

There are plenty of other top class runners heading to the Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival which is less than three weeks away.

As prize-money for the four-day meeting has risen to over £4m, it is no surprise that the entries are tremendously strong, including for the Group 1 Juddmonte Stakes, independently ranked as the best race in Britain.

Much of the chatter at Goodwood this week has been about possible Yorkshire targets for stars such as The Gurkha.

The days are counting down to the showpiece occasion of York’s season. I can’t wait!
