Danny Willett shoots four-under 68 to place himself above cut line at Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship

SHEFFIELD'S Danny Willett dipped seven shots below his first-round effort at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship to give himself a chance of making the cut.

His fellow Sheffielder Matt Fitzpatrick is on five-under-par 139 after adding a second round 71 to Thursday's 68.

He, too, started at the 10th, but with a bogey. Nine consecutive pars followed before he ensured successive under-par rounds with birdies at the second and eighth holes.

Malton's Simon Dyson, playing only his third tournament after a seven-month lay-off following wrist surgery, is on course to make his first cut of the season.

He complemented Thursday's 69 with a level-par 72 and remains in his overnight position of three under.

After a level-par outward nine, due to a birdie at seven being immediately followed by a bogey at eight, he produced an assortment of pars, bogeys and birdies on the back nine - three of each.

Harrogate's John Parry is facing a fourth straight missed cut after shooting 72 73 for one-over 145.

He had dropped three shots by the fifth hole, with two going at the second, but got them back within the space of the next five holes.

However, a birdie at the last only repaired half the damage sustained with bogeys at 14 and 16.

England's Andy Sullivan followed a flying start with an equally fast finish to further impress Ryder Cup captain Darren Clarke by setting the clubhouse target.
