Davis Cup winner Edmund returns to his Hull roots

Edmund put the young players through their paces and served up a few tips at the David Lloyd Club where he himself trained as a child through the Club’s Tennis All Stars junior coaching programme.

The 20-year-old world No 100 is a long-standing member of David Lloyd Hull along with his family.

He said: “It was a great session, I was really impressed with the children’s enthusiasm for tennis and hopefully some of the knowledge I’ve given them will inspire them to go on and become the next generation of tennis stars.”

Edmund recently played in the successful Davis Cup Final for Great Britain that saw the trophy return to the United Kingdom for the first time since 1936.

He is currently ranked within the top 100 players in the world, a career high for the youngster.

Last week, he defeated world No 2 Andy Murray 10-7 in the final of the Tie Break Tens at the Royal Albert Hall to win over £164,000 - more than he had earned all season on the tour.

As a junior, Edmund lifted double titles at both the US Open and the French Open.

David Lloyd Hull General Manager, Patrick Newcombe, said: “Kyle is a fantastic role model for any aspiring young player.

“The children were so excited to get on Court with him and we are very grateful that he took time out of his intense schedule to meet the youngsters.”

David Lloyd Leisure operates the world’s largest junior tennis coaching programme – Tennis All Stars –which sees around 12,500 budding champs learning to play tennis each week.
