Di Grassi gets laps under his belt at Jerez

LUCAS DI GRASSI managed only eight laps in his first competitive session yesterday as a trying first testing programme continued for Virgin Racing in Spain on Friday.

The Brazilian was 17.188 seconds slower than Toro Rosso's Jaime Alguersuari and over 13 seconds behind the second slowest driver, 2008 world champion Lewis Hamilton.

Virgin were forced to sit out Friday's rain-hit morning session as they continued to fix the front wing which fell off the car on Thursday.

Timo Glock had been 9.9 seconds off the pace when the problem struck on the second day of testing. Di Grassi completes the Jerez testing session on Saturday.
