Ding comeback sets up clash with Carter

SNOOKER: Sheffield-based Ding Junhui came back from 3-1 down to eliminate Mark Allen and set up a quarter-final clash with Ali Carter in the Welsh Open.

After going 2-0 down, Ding was fortunate to win a scrappy third to put himself on the board before Allen restored his two-frame lead.

Ding again hit back and took the final two frames with breaks of 81 and 79.

Carter continued his love affair with the event after a 4-1 win over Peter Ebdon saw him into the last eight.

The Essex player won the event two years ago and reached last year’s final before losing to John Higgins.

Wales’ Mark Williams continued his run with a 4-0 hammering of an out-of-sorts Jamie Cope.

Stephen Hendry compiled the 10th tournament maximum 147 break of his career in the opening frame of his clash with Stephen Maguire.
