Easterby in upbeat mood as he sets sights on Gold Cup

MONSIEUR Jordan will continue his preparation for another crack at the Grimthorpe Gold Cup with his outing in tomorrow's Men's Open for the Derwent point-to-point meeting at Charm Park.

The latest instalment of the Yorkshire Area Point To Point season gets underway with the Derwent and Staintondale Hunt members’ race at 12.30pm.

It is the card’s third race that will feature the latest appearance of Monsieur Jordain, whose jockey, William Easterby, is in upbeat mood.

“Fingers crossed he runs as well as the horses did at Askham Bryan as he continues his preparation for another crack at the Grimthorpe Gold Cup,” said his rider, whose charge could face the likes of Klepht, Harris and Six A Side.

Nine entries have been received for the card’s opening race, including Boy In Bangkok, Lucky Cody and Ross Na Righ though, as a result of previous wins, they carry some heavy penalties and may look for alternative races where they are double entered.

Amy Collier will consequently be looking to open her account on Tasheba in front of a home crowd.

Shantou Prince, who has won all of his starts in UK point-to-points, will then be all the rage in the Yorkshire Area Point-to-Point Club Members’ race with Boy in Bangkok and Mr Chippy among the likely opposition.

Drom then looks set to be a leading player in the Ladies’ Open that follows the men’s race with Lincolnshire raider His Excellency and Young Hurricane heading the opposition.

Seventeen entries have then been received for the restricted races, which have seen a resurgence in the Yorkshire area this season.

A leading contender should be Nobuttaboy, who won his maiden on his racing debut and gained more experience when coming second to Things Change in the Sinnington hunt race. The Open Maiden has received 28 entries and could be split on the day if the declarations come forward.

Nicky Tinkler, who has a good reputation at this course with horses by Desideratum, has entered Desimadonna.

Zandino, who was another to run well at Sinnington when beaten by Bedford Forrest, who has since won again, will likely provide a tough opponent for local trainer Tracey Corrigan.

The postcode for satellite navigation is YO13 9QU and admission to the event is £10 per person.
