Edwards urges Leeds to make impression

Edwards takes his charges up to the picturesque Threshfields for their latest ‘on the road’ home fixture against Moseley in the Championship, hoping for a better showing than the one they put on against Jersey at York last month.

“It’s important for us as a group that we put in the right level of performance” said Edwards, whose top-four challengers won at London Scottish last week.

“We felt that as a squad we let ourselves and the club down in the Jersey game in York, so we’ve got to put that right.

“We want to represent the county and put in a quality performance and show what quality young players we’ve got.

“It’s important we understand what we’re doing for the club that’s hosting us. They do a lot for us in terms of what they put on for us and we’ve got to back that up with a performance.

“We want to be seen as the best team in Yorkshire and ultimately the team that can represent the county in the Premiership, and we need to grow that support through those relationships.

“York had done everything possible so the game would be staged outstandingly well, and I’m sure Wharfedale will do the same. By all accounts it will be a good turnout.

“Wharfedale is a great club and we really enjoy going up there.

“It’s a good surface, a big wide pitch and a good opportunity for us to show what we’re capable of doing.”

Lock Mike Myerscough has suffered a foot injury in training and is the only change to the side that won in the capital, with Dan Hemingway coming into the starting line-up.

No 8 Rob Baldwin and scrum-half James Doherty will both feature on a ground they played on for many years.

“It means a lot to the likes of Rob and James to go back to Wharfedale and show what we’re all about,” said Edwards.

Injury-ravaged and coach-less Rotherham Titans visit Cornish Pirates tomorrow with their squad down to the bare bones and their search for a successor to Andre Bester not set for resolution until next week.

Rotherham signed Ed Taylor this week and he takes his place on the bench.

Acting head coach Lee Blackett said: “The injuries within the squad are testing the boys, but we came through it against Doncaster and are mentally tough enough to get through it again.”
