Ennis withdraws with knee injury

Jessica Ennis (City of Sheffield) set a new championship record for the 60m hurdles at the Northern Indoor Championships at Sheffield's EIS on Saturday. Looking fluent, Ennis outclassed the opposition to clock 8.15.

Having set one championship best she lost another when Bernice Wilson (Birchfield), a former Sheffield Hallam student, won the 60m in 7.34.

Ennis had earlier won her heat comfortably in 7.44 but did not line up for the final. Feeling a slight niggle in her knee, the World Champion withdrew as a precaution and also pulled out of the high jump scheduled for the second day of the meeting.
