Esher 92 Otley 0: Otley hit hard by dynamic Esher

Esher demonstrated their Championship qualities with a dazzling display which kept Otley out of the game until they produced a late flurry in the final 10 minutes.

Not for the first time Otley found themselves substantially behind in the first few minutes.

This time, Neil Taylor side-stepped his way over within a minute, fellow centre Seb Jewell kicking the first of 11 conversions.

Unlike past occasions, Otley were unable to make any reply against the leaders. Two minutes later, winger James Copsey was put away and, following some good defensive work from the visitors, the Esher pack drove over for No 8 Shawn Renwick to ground.

A penalty into the Otley 22 set up another drive, prop Colm Hannon touching down.

Esher were finally forced to defend but they were soon back on the attack, scrum-half Andy Garner sneaking over before quick handling following a line-out saw Jewell cut through.

A length of the field move had Garner in for his second try and they reached half-time with a 47 points lead.

Otley had no answer to Esher's power and pace as they steadily went through their routine to stack up the points, England Under-20 winger Sam Smith grabbed a hat-trick with further tries from Renwick and Taylor.

Replacement winger Tom Lozides got into the act and Jewell added his second but, to Otley's credit, they had a good last 10 minutes, without any reward.

Their 16th defeat of the season leaves them third from bottom after 25 games.
