Eventing run-in led by Kiwi Nicholson

ANDREW NICHOLSON has taken the lead in British Eventing's top-100 rider list which is published at the end of the season. The New Zealander – and Bramham Horse Trials favourite – won a total of 2,233 British Eventing points this year, which put him well ahead of William Fox-Pitt, in second place with 1,864 and Oliver Townend in third with 1,057.

Nicholson has not won a major CCI three- or four-star event this year but he has still had a very successful season with a large team of horses. He also won individual bronze at the World Equestrian Games riding Nereo. Yorkshire's Nicola Wilson takes 13th place in the top 20, with 631 points.

The top horses this year are Fox-Pitt's ride, Cool Mountain, in first place; Nereo, ridden by Nicholson in second with Burghley winner, Lenamore third.

THE Ebony Horse Club, a pioneering horse riding charity in South London, has been awarded the Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) 2010 Alltech Award for Development.

Ebony, which works with deprived youngsters in Brixton, is building a riding centre so that more local children will be able to benefit from the club's wide-ranging activities.

The charity has received financial support from HOOF – Ride London, the British Equestrian Federation's Olympic legacy project.
