Exeter City v Huddersfield Town : Clark has focus on yet another step up

League one:LEE CLARK admits his Huddersfield Town side are "massive outsiders" in the race for automatic promotion.

The Terriers are one of five clubs going into the final day with a chance of claiming second place behind League One champions Norwich City.

It will, however, take an unusual set of results for sixth-placed Huddersfield, who travel to relegation-threatened Exeter City, to leapfrog Charlton, Millwall, Swindon and Leeds to claim runners-up spot – as Clark concedes.

The Town manager said: "In August, if I had written the script of us certainly being in the play-offs and in with a chance of automatic then I would have taken it. But we have to realise the position we have put ourselves in.

"Five clubs still have the opportunity but we are the massive outsiders so what we are focusing on is the next game and trying to win it.

"If we win, we move at least one place up and maybe even higher. That is our focus. If, during the afternoon, things go our way then we will have a look at it but, first and foremost, this is a very tough game because Exeter are desperate for the points.

"I am looking to Exeter and trying to win the game and if we do that, see where we end up."

Town will take on a team embroiled in the relegation fight with only goal difference keeping Exeter above fourth bottom Tranmere Rovers in the table.

With the Birkenhead club travelling to rock-bottom Stockport, it means today is likely to be a nervy affair for the Grecians.

Clarke, however, is determined to focus only on his own side. "There have been massive improvements this season in terms of the steps we have taken on the pitch.

"If we score against Exeter, it will be our 100th goal in all competitions, which is a terrific feat for anyone. We have had some great performances and a great development of our young players."
