And the Whites were joined in Sunday's fourth round draw by Sheffield Wednesday - who beat Championship side Bristol City 3-0 away - Huddersfield Town, who edged out Dover Athletic 2-0, and Doncaster Rovers after a 2-2 draw with Wolves.

Ten-man Aston Villa beat Sheffield United 3-1 while Hull City crashed 3-2 to Wigan Athletic.

Non-league side York City came close to earning a replay at Premier League side Bolton Wanderers, but two late goals delivered a 2-0 win for the hosts.

Bradford City were surprise losers to strugglers Barnet in League Two - their first away win in 18 games.

Cesc Fabregas snatched a late equaliser from the penalty spot to earn an Elland Road replay. Robert Snodgrass (54) had given United the lead from the penalty spot after Max Gradel was tripped by Denilson.

Bolton Wanderers 2 York City 0

Kevin Davies (83) broke York's brave resistance, converting Sam Ricketts's cross. Johan Elmander (89) added a second.

Bristol City 0 Sheffield Wednesday 3

Gary Teale (49) opened Owls scoring, heading home Chris Sedgwick's cross, before Neil Mellor (55) added a second. Clinton Morrison (65) added a third.

Doncaster Rovers 2 Wolves 2

Billy Sharp (41) and James Hayter (43) turned the game around after Nenad Milijas (38) had opened scoring with 35-yard effort. Stephen Hunt equalised from the penalty spot on 58 minutes but were down to 10 men when George Elokobi was red carded.

Huddersfield Town 2 Dover Athletic 0

Terriers raced into 2-0 lead inside eight minutes, Scott Arfield and Gary Roberts on target.

Hull City 2 Wigan Athletic 3

Mohamed Diame (21) netted a rebound at KC Stadium before Callum McManaman (56) added a second. Substitute Nick Barmby (74, 89) netted twice, as Diame made it 3-1.

Sheffield United 1 Aston Villa 3

Former Blades Kyle Walker (9) opened scoring before Marc Albrighton (33) doubled their advantage. Jamie Ward (46) pulled a goal back from the penalty spot before Ashley Young was red carded with 15 minutes to go. Stilyan Petrov (90) added a late third goal for Villa.

Jonathan Spector (29) opened scoring at Upton Park before Piquionne (90) added a late second.

Luke Oliver (45) opened scoring for Bantams, before an own goal from Rob Kiernan (61) levelled the score. Anwar Uddin (64) and Ricky Holmes (67) then put Barnet in front.
