Fahey duo head to Ascot

The Malton handler, fresh from saddling his first Group One winner with Wootton Bassett at Longchamp, is set to send both Marine Commando and Arctic Feeling for Saturday's Group Three.

Marine Commando won the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot before disappointing at Glorious Goodwood, while Arctic Feeling arrives in better form having struck gold in a Listed event at Ayr last month.

"They'll probably both take their chances in the Cornwallis," Fahey told At The Races.

"Marine Commando is in good order. He's had a cough for three months on and off and he probably went to Goodwood a bit fresh and didn't get the trip. He just hasn't been healthy since so we haven't been able to race him, but we're happy with him now.

"Arctic Feeling is a very fast horse. We've wanted to get him dropped in all season but he's a horse with an awful lot of speed. He's a horse who just needs to be hung on to and it was the first time we got it right at Ayr. He's been a bit unlucky this year but if we can get him switched off early on Saturday, he'll have a good chance."

Makfi, this year's 2000 Guineas hero, has been retired to stud after suffering a bout of ringworm.

The Mikel Delzangles-trained three-year-old was a hugely impressive winner of the Newmarket Classic in May, and enjoyed further Group One glory by defeating Goldikova in the Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville.

Although he was disappointing in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot last month, connections had been considering a possible trip to the Breeders' Cup. He will instead take up stallion duties at Tweenhills Stud in Gloucestershire. "He came back from Ascot with a little bit of ringworm from Ascot and he has been retired to stud," confirmed Delzangles.

"He's been a great horse to train this season and we have had a great year."

Trainer Eamon Tyrrell and jockey Jason Behan have sought legal advice after being disqualified for three years for not running Casela Park on his merits at Newcastle on August 4.

The British Horseracing Authority disciplinary panel found the pair guilty of the offence after concluding that Behan's ride amounted to "deliberately preventing a horse from winning" the [email protected] Handicap.

The five-year-old, sent off at odds of 17-2, finished sixth off top weight of 9st 13lb, beaten two lengths. He went on to run again two days later at Musselburgh, finishing fourth on that occasion.

He has not raced since, and has been suspended from running for 42 days from today.

Behan and Tyrrell's disqualification period also commences from today in Britain, but the Irish Turf Club will await news of any possible appeal before reciprocating the suspension.
