Farah leads 100-strong England team in Delhi

DOUBLE European champion Mo Farah was one of three gold medallists from Barcelona named in England's team for the Commonwealth Games in Delhi next month.

The 27-year-old, who struck gold over 5,000 and 10,000 metres in Spain earlier this summer and last week broke the 28-year-old British record over the shorter distance, will race over both distances in India.

He was joined by fellow European champions 110m hurdler Andy Turner and Phillips Idowu, who will be defending his triple jump crown.

Olympic 400m champion Christine Ohuruogu, who missed the European Championships earlier this summer with a quad injury, was also included in the 100-strong team of athletes and will defend the title she won in Melbourne four years ago at the Games which get under way on October 3.

World and European heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis, who ended her season after taking gold in Barcelona, had long made it known she would not be going to India.

Among the Yorkshire Olympians involved are 400m runner Richard Buck, pole vaulter Luke Cutts and high jumper Martyn Bernard.
