Fatigue takes its toll on medallists

The homecoming party for Britain's Barcelona heroes fell flat for a second day running in the Aviva Grand Prix, with no individual victories for a capacity crowd of 16,000 to celebrate at Crystal Palace.

It was a combination of post-championship fatigue and world-class opposition which brought the European Championship medallists back down to earth.

European champion Andy Turner was last in the 110m hurdles and Christian Malcolm likewise in the 200m, with silver medallist Michael Bingham fourth in the 400m ahead of bronze medallist Martyn Rooney in sixth.

Bronze medallists Chris Tomlinson, from Middlesbrough, and Jenny Meadows were third and fifth in the long jump and 800m respectively.
