Sheffield were unlucky when three potential winners failed to score. Chris Craig, who won the 200m in the first match, was disqualified for false starting, Mukhtar Mohammed, hot favourite for the 800m, was disqualified for barging, and pole vault star Luke Cutts failed to record a height. Struggling with a back injury, Cutts came in at 5.22m but had three failures.

There were second places for Sheffield athletes Amy Hill in the shot (14.65m), Anthony Whiteman in the 1500 (3:50.00), Emma Lyons in the pole vault (4.21m), Matt Roberts in the high jump (2.15m) and Liam Ramsay in the combined events.

There was a superb performance from Adam Hague (The Dearne ALC) in the under 15 pole vault at the English Junior Indoor Championships held at Birmingham at the weekend.

After breaking the championship record with 3.92, Hague went on to break a 17-year-old UK record for his age group by clearing 4.06 at his first attempt.
