Accrington Stanley 2 Rotherham United 1: Nothing automatic as Millers are sunk

A PULSATING game was settled 10 minutes from time with a goal which further dented Rotherham's automatic promotion hopes.

A win here would have put them into third place and for most of the second half they looked like securing it. But the first half had been a different story and they were fortunate not to be more than a goal down after Stanley outplayed them.

Rotherham had already had a let off when Danny Harrison deflected a Jimmy Ryan centre onto the bar when the home side took a 17th-minute lead.

Ryan did the spade work on the right and Michael Symes finished off from close range.

Symes had a header cleared off the line by Harrison and Andy Warrington made excellent saves from John Miles and Billy Kee.

Rotherham, however, came out a different team in the second half and Marcus Marshall put a chance wide.

Rotherham equalised with a stunning goal on 56 minutes from Josh Walker, on loan from Middlesbrough, who struck a left- foot shot from 25-yards into the top corner.

Ian Sharps went close with a header before Rotherham had a goal disallowed for a contentious offside decision. With just 10 minutes to go, Accrington went up the other end and Dean Winnard did well to set up Ryan to score from 12 yards.
