Adam Murray on Barnsley FC's striker search

The Reds have covered their central midfield bases with the signings of Herbie Kane and Matty James, while also bringing in another full-back option in Callum Brittain - but could not make a breakthrough in their much-publicised search for an additional frontman after taking the decision to sell Jacob Brown to Wednesday night opponents Stoke City.

Murray, who will take charge of the team for the second time on an interim basis in the Potteries, said: "We are speaking to a couple of free agents at the minute in certain positions. I imagine it will be the same as it was in the window.

"If we feel, as a club, that the right product is out there who is going to make us better, then we will look into that. If not, when are happy with what we have done."

On specifically which position, he commented: "It's centre forward. I have said before that in an ideal world, you have all kinds of ingredients to use.

"If you have not got those ingredients, you have to find a different strategy to get the best out of what you have got.

"Nothing is going to happen in the next 48 hours."

Meanwhile, Murray said that he had received no specific update on the club's search for a new permanent head coach following the exit of Gerhard Struber to New York Red Bulls, with the Reds hierarchy still in talks with various candidates and representatives.

The likes of ex-Crystal Palace defender Valerien Ismael, Alexander Zorniger and Markus Schopp have been linked with the position, with the club expected to opt for another continental candidate.

Murray said: "There's nothing specific. I know that they are still in talks with various people and the process is ongoing.

"As a group, we take it day by day and game by game and when we know any different, we will crack on with that situation."

Barnsley's medical staff will assess defender Michael Sollbauer this afternoon, with the influential Austrian still a bit 'groggy' after being stretchered off at the end of Saturday's 2-2 draw with Bristol City - when he received attention for seven minutes after being felled by Callum O'Dowda following an aerial challenge.

On whether he will be involved, Murray said: "It was not 100 per cent if he was unconscious at the time, so the doctor is speaking to the physio - and we will have a clearer answer.

"We have a couple of other niggles, but nothing too serious. I don't want to give too much away in terms of team news, but there is nothing major and we will be making a late call on one or two.

"Callum Styles will still be out and he has still not recovered from the knock he has picked up. But we are hoping that, come the weekend, it will be touch and go."

On the fitness of James, Murray continued: "He has worked very hard at Leicester and we got his data through yesterday and he has been pushed very tough.

"We are happy where he is at. He has obviously not got many match minutes and that is something we have got to be aware of. But he is somebody we want to get into the team when we can and when the right moment is. He will be a really big player for us, not just in terms of his ability, but his experience and know-how.

"We have enough games coming up and we will be involved."
