Aldershot 3 Rotherham United 0: Millers left looking over their shoulders

ROTHERHAM UNITED fell to a costly defeat at Aldershot to further dent their automatic promotion hopes and complete a miserable Easter.

Goals by Dean Morgan, Marvin Morgan and Dean Howell killed off the Millers and left them looking over their shoulders as chasing teams closed the gap.

Aldershot needed a win to close within a point of the visitors and it was they who showed their superior cutting edge and made fewer mistakes.

Dean Morgan seized on a slip between Gavin Gunning and Pablo Mills to fire the shots into a 16th-minute lead.

The Millers' leading scorer, Adam Le Fondre, shaved the crossbar with a rising shot late in the first half but Rotherham did not get the breaks in front of goal when they needed them.

Le Fondre was foiled by two good saves as the Millers rallied after half time but Aldershot held firm and made sure of the points with two goals in the last 10 minutes.

Marvin Morgan outwitted Ian Sharps and ran half the length of the field to slip the ball past Andy Warrington for 2-0 before substitute Howell made it 3-0 from a late breakaway.

Millers manager Ronnie Moore said: "There was nothing between the teams but individual mistakes killed us. You can't make the sort of defensive errors we did and expect to win."
