Andy Yiadom saga is not damaging Barnsley chief's faith

BARNSLEY manager Paul Heckingbottom expects the transfer saga surrounding Huddersfield Town target Andy Yiadom to be settled either way later this week after admitting, 'It can't go on much longer'.

The 25-year-old full-back is again set to miss Tuesday night’s game with Nottingham Forest after being left out of the weekend defeat to Ipswich Town.

Town chief David Wagner declined to speak about Yiadom, who the Terriers have been tracking all summer, following Saturday’s Premier League win at Crystal Palace amid suggestions that a deal had stalled.

Asked about the saga, Heckingbottom said: “As far as I know, nothing has really progressed. Both sides are talking. It wasn’t right for me to involve him on Saturday and if it is still the same I won’t on Tuesday because it isn’t fair on all the other players.

“We are preparing for our game and obviously [the player] is in limbo at the minute. Until it is resolved, it isn’t fair on the players in the dressing room. It can’t go on much longer.

“I would expect to know on Wednesday or Thursday.”

Without Yiadom, Barnsley produced a performance that, even allowing for how Ipswich came from behind to claim all three points, pleased Heckingbottom hugely.

Ahead of taking on a Forest side boasting a maximum six points from their opening two games, the Reds chief said: “Forest have had a good start so we know it will be another tough game,” he said.

“I am expecting a performance from us that is the same as Saturday. And if it is, I am sure we will win the game.

“That was the first time I have been stood on the side this year and been happy with lots of things. The progression is there. It was a really good week and players took everything on board, we saw that on the pitch. We just didn’t get the result.

“I said at half time, ‘Are you enjoying it?’ They all were. And I was, too, watching from the side.

“I watched the game back on Sunday, (and felt) similar. Signs of progress and I was pleased with lots of things.”
