Aston Villa v Sheffield Wednesday - Owls have one Fox happy to be hunted

With just 10 games of the season remaining the Owls – who occupy the final play-off spot – are five points ahead of Fulham, who have a game in hand.

The pressure is on Wednesday to pick up points from today’s trip to Aston Villa and next Friday’s visit of fifth-placed Reading to Hillsborough before the international break.

Fulham are at Newcastle United today, host Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday – their game in hand – before Wolves visit Craven Cottage next weekend.

But left-back Fox – a January arrival from Charlton Athletic – insists the Owls still have the upper hand.

“You do glance at the teams below a little bit,” said Fox, 23. “You would be silly not to glance at what they are doing but essentially we are focusing on what we are doing.

“As opposed to being the chaser, you want to be chased because it means you are always going to be above that team.

“We are in the position we want to be in at the moment. We just have to keep going.

“We are looking up rather than down. We’ve still got loads of games to play and we still have to play against Reading as well. There are still lots of points to play for.

“We are pretty confident with the results we’ve had recently. We’ve put some good form together.

“We are taking each game as it comes and Aston Villa is the next one we are focusing on and we are hoping to take three points there.”

Wednesday possess a huge squad, and Fox believes the extra players could be crucial during the run-in.

Fox and Daniel Pudil are competing for the left-back shirt, and there are legitimate battles all over the field for starting roles.

“People say the size of the squad is too big but it is not,” he said. “It gives good competition for places and everyone is pushing each other every day in training so it can only be healthy.

“Competition keeps you on your toes and keeps you looking over your shoulder. You never know when you are going to be in and out of the team.

“The gaffer has always said if you are doing well in training and doing well in the games then you will play.

“Everybody is pushing each other. We all want to be on the pitch and it really does raise standards.”
