Barnet v Rotherham United: Millers insist new ground has go ahead

MILLERS chairman Tony Stewart insists that plans to return the club to a new £20m stadium in Rotherham are still on track.

Work has yet to begin on the 12,000 all-seater venue which has been earmarked for land at the former Guest and Chrimes site adjacent to the River Don.

The Millers have less than two years to get things moving but Stewart is adamant that work will start in the New Year.

"We are hitting our targets and we are reasonably comfortable," he said. "Nothing has changed and there have been no hiccups.

"A lot of things will happen in the run-up to Christmas," he added.

"Hopefully, in the next two to three weeks, we can get outline planning consent. We need to start digging on the site by the end of February."

The Millers have been playing at Sheffield's Don Valley athletics stadium since leaving Millmoor in 2008 following a dispute over rent. They travel to Barnet this afternoon.
