Barnsley 0 QPR 1: Robins sad to end with Oakwell loss

BARNSLEY manager Mark Robins couldn't hide his disappointment after seeing his side lose their final home game of the Championship season.

QPR's Mikele Leigertwood scored a superb winner to sink Barnsley at Oakwell, volleying his fifth goal of the season from 22 yards, giving home goalkeeper Luke Steele no chance.

But Robins was pleased overall with his players after a poor run of form had them slide down the Championship table.

"We got a reaction today and created more chances than them," said Robins. "They scored with a shot which was speculative.

"One thing that we didn't do was pass the ball enough. We wanted to get the ball to Jacob Butterfield and Hugo Colace and push them further forward because when you've got two little ones up front that's your only option, but we didn't.

"It's our final home game and we're disappointed to be finishing with a defeat. I believe the players have given everything. Looking at the whole season I'm delighted at where we are, but I am disappointed that we didn't get anything from the game."

Keeper Radek Cerny made excellent saves from Jon Macken and Hugo Colace either side of Leigertwood's strike to make sure of the points, despite a second-half goal being disallowed for a handball by Akos Buszaky.

With safety assured before Saturday, QPR manager Neil Warnock is already looking towards next season and said: "I can't wait for the season to end and then I can bring in my own players. I want to bring in a striker.

"It's hard to motivate players when there's nothing at stake. In the first half we could have given away couple of goals, but we played better in the second."
