Barnsley draft in duo to bolster midfield

Barnsley have completed the loan signings of Danny Drinkwater from Manchester United and Cameron Park from Middlesbrough.

Midfielder Drinkwater, 21, will stay with the npower Championship side until January 2 and 19-year-old winger Park’s youth loan will run until November 26.

Barnsley manager Keith Hill, who has now drafted in 10 new players during the summer, said: “Danny is a very good technician who is dynamic and has experience at this level.

“He’s going to bring competition for places in our small squad and Cameron’s a quality operator, left-footed and pleasing on the eye.”

Ipswich manager Paul Jewell is stepping up his efforts to sign Hull City midfielder Jimmy Bullard.

The midfielder, whose contract with the Tigers is in the process of being terminated, enjoyed a successful three-month loan spell at Portman Road last season.

Jewell, who faces competition for the 32-year-old’s signature, said: “I spoke to Jimmy twice (on Monday) and once on Sunday with the owner about him.

“He had a meeting with QPR and there are a couple of Premier League teams in for him, but we’re trying to be competitive and we’re trying to bring him here.

“Jimmy’s going to be very expensive, but he does also want to play football so we’re trying to do something with him.”

Bullard is still registered as a Hull player and is not permitted to join another club without the Tigers’ clearance.

Crewe are set to hand a trial to former Sheffield Wednesday defender Richard Hinds, who is a free agent following his release this summer.

Derby County defender Jake Buxton is closing in on a return from a near 18-month injury lay-off. The 26-year-old centre-back has endured a catalogue of groin, stomach and back problems.
