For the second successive game, Barnsley triumphed in astonishing fashion in stoppage time with a goal from substitute Clarke Oduor securing a priceless 2-1 win at Griffin Park - in the final league game to take place at the West London venue in its 116-year history.

The result means that Gerhard Struber's side are safe should the decision by the English Football League to dock Wigan Athletic 12 points for entering administration be upheld.

Earlier on in a pulsating night, Styles picked the best possible time to score his first ever competitive goal to put the visitors ahead at the promotion-chasing Bees just before half-time.

A strike in the 73th-minute from Josh Dasilva levelled for Brentford - who would have been promoted to the Premier League had they triumphed with West Brom drawing with QPR - but Barnsley dug deep and a milestone strike from Oduor - who also scored the first senior goal of his career - saw them sensationally save their Championship skins.

Former Bury midfielder Styles, 20, in outstanding form after recently coming into the side, said: "It is strange.I was on the phone afterwards and my dad was crying with happiness and he was over the moon and my num and dad are really proud of me.

"It shows the highs and the lows of football. You have to learn from both.

"We are a strong group. Gerhard (Struber) has completely given us a new gear and brought us all together and stuck with his game plan and it has worked. He has given me my chance and I have taken it.

"I am over the moon. To perform like we have done after lockdown and get the win at Brentford is just mad. I cannot put it into words. We gave it everything."
