Barnsley FC struggled to cope in the second half, admits Gerhard Struber

BARNSLEY head coach Gerhard Struber admits his side struggled to cope with a powerhouse Chelsea side in a rampant second-half as the Reds suffered a crushing 6-0 defeat to the five-time winners.

Kai Havertz led the parade with a hat-trick as Frank Lampard's side scored three goals in each half as Barnsley - despite a promising start - fell away badly and produced a naive, mistake-ridden defensive display.

Struber, whose side welcome Coventry City on Saturday, said: "Today, we can speak more about the mistakes or the first 35 minutes.

"On the one side, we created many good moments in the first half and when we speak about the mistakes, it was very easy for Chelsea to score goals with our behaviour.

"The pressure of the situation, especially in the second half, was not so easy for us and on the physical side, we were on the limit with our intensity and aggression and it was not easy against this team.

"In the first half, with the right intensity and aggression, we found good chances and we can score goals.

"But now, we have many things to learn and we will learn from the game and grow up our style a little bit and bring intensity and focus for the game on Saturday.

"We are realistic and Chelsea played an outstanding game, especially when I saw the players. They have a different activity (level) than my players. That is the reality.

"We expected a big opponent and every single one had a special ability on the ball. Nevertheless, we found good moments in the first half with pressing and we had twenty minutes completely in our hands and control. We found very good chances, but could not use that."
