Morris, who has spent two previous loan spells in Yorkshire at Rotherham United, is being pursued by the Reds as they seek to sign another forward to add to their forward options this month.

Speaking last month, head coach Valerien Ismael confirmed that the 25-year-old was a target for the club.

Cambridge-born Morris moved to Stadium MK on a season-long loan last summer, but that included an option for the Canaries to cut-short the deal this month – an option they have subsequently taken up, with MK Dons chief Russell Martin expecting that the player will now be sold by Norwich.

The frontman scored six goals in 34 games for the Dons.

Martin said: “Carlton is back with Norwich and he goes with our best wishes and a thank you for what he’s done her.

“We’re disappointed to lose him. Carlton’s character and responsibility was huge for us and he was a big part of what we did over the last 12 months.

“He’s another example of a player who has performed well within our structure, been noticed and progressed their career.

“I don’t want to pretend it’s not a loss for us because it is, but the players have shown, in the last two games without him, that they can adapt and can find a way.

“If we need to replace him, then we will go into the market to do so but the players we have here now have a chance and it’s up to them to take it.”
