Barnsley star to miss clash with old boys at Villa Park

BARNSLEY are facing an anxious wait for scan results regarding influential midfielder Josh Scowen, who came off with an ankle injury in the weekend draw at Reading.

Scowen rolled his ankle in the stalemate at the Madejski Stadium and is unlikely to be fit for tomorrow night’s encounter at Villa Park, which sees the Reds renew acquaintances with old boys Conor Hourihane and James Bree.

Head coach Paul Heckingbottom said: “He is still sore and we are awaiting to see the extent of it today (Tuesday).

“When Scowy comes off, you know he is hurt. We tried to patch him up at half-time, but Sedgy (physio Craig Sedgwick) made a call early and said he was not going to last.

“If you watch the video, you can see he really turned his ankle. Hopefully, it is not too bad and you can never really tell until after a couple of days in to see how sore they are.

“It did not look drastically terrible. But if things aren’t improving and you get a scan, it could be big damage. We will just wait and see how it is.”

Adam Jackson should be back involved in the Reds squad following food poisoning, while Alex Mowatt serves the final game of a three-match ban tomorrow.
