Barnsley team news: Josh Scowen facing month-long spell on sidelines

PAUL HECKINGBOTTOM says that key Barnsley midfielder Josh Scowen is likely to be out for 'two to four weeks' with an ankle injury - but at least thankful that the issue is not a serious one.

Scowen was injured in Saturday's goalless draw with Reading, with the Reds handed a worrying wait to find out the extent of the damage.

But fears that the ex-Wycombe man may be out for an extended period of time have been allayed.

Head coach Heckingbottom, who welcomes back Alex Mowatt into the fray after a three-match ban for Saturday's intriguing home encounter with Brighton, said: "We are not treating it as a serious one, although with an ankle sprain, you are looking at two to four weeks.

"But knowing Josh, he will want to get back quicker and Sedgy (physio Craig Sedgwick) will be doing all he can to get him back.

"The sooner the better, really.

"Josh is progressing well and we are not too concerned. We have got the swelling down and the bruising came off. If anything slows down or we can't get past a certain stage, we will let them scan it. But we are not expecting that to happen."
