Bessone looks for play-off finish with Leeds United

NEW signing Federico Bessone believes Leeds United can challenge for promotion this season.

The 26-year-old Argentinean left-back has signed a three-year deal at Elland Road after turning down a contract at Swansea City.

Bessone, who spent four years at Barcelona as a youngster and grew up alongside Lionel Messi, is United's fourth free transfer signing of the summer after Simon Grayson earlier captured Kasper Schmiechel, Billy Paynter and Paul Connolly.

He said: "Leeds are a massive club. The manager showed me around on Tuesday and it is very impressive.

"I have worked with Barcelona and Espanyol but they don't have a (training) facility anything like this.

"Last season, Swansea had a good season and were in the top six for most of it. But this is now a new year and I am here because Leeds can be in the top six.

"If we try to play good football, we will be up there near the top of the league."
