England striker Kane then doubled his tally for the day midway through the first half as Spurs threatened to run riot.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side were forced to wait until added time in the second half for their fourth, scored by Moussa Sissoko, but Kane again stole the headlines.

The 24-year-old has now scored 13 goals in eight games for club and country since the start of September - having once again failed to notch in the month of August.

Asked if he has ever felt more on top of his game, Kane told Sky Sports: “Probably not.

“If you look at the goals to games it’s probably the best month I’ve had, especially after August.

“It’s nice, I feel good, I feel confident, when these boys are up the pitch putting in good crosses and through balls and I’m just there to put them away.

“I’m delighted with the win, it’s been a great week for the team, and we’ve just got to continue that after the international break.”

The defeat was just Huddersfield’s second in seven Premier League games since winning promotion, but Terriers defender Mathias Jorgensen is looking to learn from the setback.

“We showed a little bit (in the second half) the way we want to play this game, then again we concede in the end and we can throw all that out again,” he said.

“We need to make sure we play collectively as a team, like we did in spells today, and erase all the mistakes.

“It sounds easier than it is to do, but that’s basically what we learned from today, you get punished.”

On the performance of Kane, he added: “He’s a goalscorer, and you give him half a chance and he will whip it into the top corner with his wrong foot.”
