Birmingham return with improved bid for Sheffield United's Che Adams

After rejecting a £1.2m bid from the Championship club earlier this month, it had been expected an improved offer would be made to the Blades.

Adams, 20, appeared as a second-half substitute in Wednesday night’s friendly with Derby, and though the Blades have this week signed Leon Clarke from Bury, it is not believed he was brought in as a replacement.

But Rowett is keen to bolster his attacking options and remains confident of a deal.

He said: “Quite a bit has come out in the press already, we have had a couple of bids in and it’s all down to what Sheffield United want to do.

“I know Chris (Wilder) really well, he’s a real good guy and I wouldn’t try to scupper any plans he has got. But if the lad is available and if we can find the right price then I think he has got huge potential.

“Like we have said before, he is their player, it is their prerogative to do whatever they want.”

Adams moved to the South-Yorkshire outfit from non-league Ilkeston two years ago. He struggled to command a first-team place in his debut season but excelled last year scoring 11 league goals in 34 appearances as the Blades struggled to make the play-offs, leading to the sacking of Nigel Adkins.

The youngster penned a new deal with the club prior to Wilder’s appointment but an exit now seems inevitable as it is likely a deal will be struck between the two clubs.
