In a game of few chances, neither of the league’s leading marksmen, Jordan Rhodes and James Vaughan, could find the net, though the Blackburn striker headed over his side’s best chance in the first half.

Blackburn were indebted to goalkeeper Jake Kean late in the first half when he produced a fine save to thwart Adam Hammill’s glancing header.

Huddersfield are unbeaten in their last three games, as well as their last three on the road, and although they have only managed two away goals this season manager Mark Robins was delighted to take a point at a ‘really difficult place to come’.

“You wouldn’t have bet on a 0-0 but we’ve got one and the reason for that was because we allowed them to play in the first half but didn’t allow it in the second and created the better opportunities,” he said.

“We came here last year and got nothing. They’re a strong outfit, have a decent squad and I’m pleased with the point.

“It was one of those games where had we upped our tempo five per cent we would have won the game. Had they done the same, they may have done so. It was a little bit of a stalemate.

“They were better first half than us, we were better in the second half than them. Or certainly we were better than we were in the first half and what we did was kept possession of the ball better in our half.

“When we went forward we were a little bit better but missed a cutting edge, which was the only thing missing but I’m delighted with a clean sheet away from home especially at a place like this.

“They’ve won 5-2 and 4-1 and had really good results at home and were confident so coming here and getting a 0-0 is a really good result on the face of it.”
