Blackpool v Hull City - Tigers have quick chance to respond

GOALKEEPER Matt Ingram says Hull City’s players were “gutted” by their off-colour defeat to Shrewsbury Town but as is almost always the case in this season’s League One, they do not have to wait long to put it right.

The Tigers lost 1-0 on Saturday, the first time they have failed to score in a league match in 2020-21.

Fortunately for them, Lincoln City’s hammering at home to Sunderland kept them top of the table, and they have a chance to react at Blackpool this evening. Despite that, Ingram admitted defeat had been hard to take.

“We were gutted in the dressing room,” he said. “We didn’t impose our game on them in the first half. In the second half, we huffed and puffed but couldn’t quite blow the door down.

“We weren’t quite good enough but, luckily, we’ve got Blackpool around the corner where we can put it right.”

The Shrews went into the game one from bottom – they are still in the relegation zone now – but former Quens Park Rangers goalkeeper Ingram denied there had been any complacency.

“We treat every game the same,” he insisted. I know it’s a cliche, but we do. We went into that game giving Shrewsbury real respect.

“We knew what we were going to face, we knew it was going to be tough. It just didn’t quite click.”
