Bradford City in the market for new striker following Austin Samuel's return to Wolves

BRADFORD City are on the hunt for a new striker following Austin Samuels return to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 20-year-old forward made 14 appearances for the Bantams during his loan spell but moved back to his parent club on Wednesday.

City activated a clause to cancel the loan agreement with the Premier League club, leaving space for another striker in their ranks.

"Obviously Austin Samuels has gone back to his parent club and that gives us availability to bring in another striker," said joint-interim manager Conor Sellars, with just over two weeks left of the January transfer window.

"It is something we are looking to do.

"There are other positions as well but striker is the one we are looking at because we have just had an out there.

"We are looking to fill that gap straightaway."

Bradford were quick to fill the vacancy in central defence following Ben Richards-Everton's departure on Monday, confirming the arrival of centre-back Niall Canavan a day later.

The Bantams have no new injury concerns as they welcome Crawley Town to West Yorkshire on Saturday afternoon and have also reported zero Covid-19 cases following the latest round of testing.

Sellars added: "At the minute, there will be no changes to the injury list, in or out."

City will undergo one further round of testing on Friday, as they hope to return to action after not playing since December 29.

Last week's fixture at Scunthorpe United was called off due to a frozen pitch while the visit of Morecambe on January 2 was postponed due to a Covid-19 outbreak at the Mazuma Stadium.

"We had the mass testing a week or so ago and had no cases, and we had a follow-up one at the beginning of this week and had no cases again," said Sellars.

"We are due to have one tomorrow. For us, if there is somebody carrying the virus then we can quickly deal with it."
