Bradford City plan to unveil McCall's successor tomorrow

Joint chairmen Julian Rhodes and Mark Lawn spent three days either side of the weekend interviewing 10 of the dozen names on the club's shortlist to replace Stuart McCall.

The final two – believed to be Dean Windasss and caretaker manager Wayne Jacobs – will be grilled today before the Bantams board sit down to whittle the list down to just three names. The trio will then be questioned as to their own pay demands with City determined to stick to a planned budget. Lawn last night told the Yorkshire Post: "We are looking to be able to make an announcement on Wednesday.

"Once we have decided on the final three names, we have promised to telephone them and take it from there.

"Obviously, we have to cut our cloth accordingly so financial considerations will have to come into it.

"What I can say is we have been delighted with the quality of applications we have received. There have been a lot of very good managers on our shortlist. The vast majority have shown a real interest in coming to Bradford City and that shows this is an attractive job."

Peter Taylor, Peter Jackson, Jim Magilton, Russell Slade, Lawrie Sanchez and Martin Allen are all believed to have met the Bantams board on Thursday or Friday last week.

A further round of interviews took place yesterday with former Burnley manager Steve Cotterill among those outlining their vision for the future.

The Yorkshire Post also understands an as yet unnamed manager employed by one of Bradford's rivals remains on the Valley Parade radar, though Lawn and Rhodes may be left frustrated due to the club in question being reluctant to sanction his release.

Only one of the 10 interviewed so far has been ruled out of the running to become City's new manager leaving the board with a tough decision.

Not only must they decide whether to stick to their original plan of naming an interim manager until the end of the season or opt for a more long-term appointment, but they also have the unenviable task of whittling such a strong field down to a final trio.

Lawn added: "We have been impressed with what we have heard from the vast majority of those that have been interviewed.

"What we want to do now is get the appointment made and bring some direction back to the club. There is still a lot of football to be played between now and the end of the season.

"If we go down the route of appointing until the summer, obviously whoever gets the job will have a head start when it comes to being our next permanent manager."

Coventry City have signed Ipswich Town striker Jon Stead on loan until the end of the season, with a view to a permanent deal.

The 26-year-old former Huddersfield Town and Sheffield United striker will go straight into the Sky Blues' squad for tomorrow's game at Newcastle United.
