Bantams confident of turning the corner

ANDREW DAVIES insists Bradford City will not suffer a JPT hangover on Saturday when Plymouth Argyle come to Valley Parade for an almighty relegation scrap.

The Bantams’ dreams of reaching Wembley ended in disappointment on Tuesday night when Oldham Athletic beat Phil Parkinson’s men 2-0 at Boundary Park in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Northern Area semi-final.

Now, the focus is on the weekend and a meeting with the bottom club. The stakes are high as an away win would mean Plymouth drawing level on points with City in the fight to avoid the drop from the Football League.

Davies said: “I don’t think anyone would be down anyway but this being such a big game means we can’t dwell on losing to Oldham.

“Our performances have been good recently so out morale won’t be affected by what happened on Tuesday night. I would like to think everyone took the positives out of it.

“There is a feeling among the lads that things are turning round. No-one is falling out and saying things like, ‘You didn’t do this or that’. It shows everyone is together.

“I think the fans can also see how we are working for each other. They were brilliant at Oldham and their support will be very important this weekend.

“Since I came to the club, they have been great. I have had a few clubs and they are definitely one of the best I have witnessed.”

Davies joined City on loan from Stoke City in late September. Since then, he has twice been sent off – meaning he has played one more game for the club than the seven he has missed through suspension.

The defender added: “I have seen a big improvement since I came to Bradford. The back four is quite solid. Saturday is a big game and we feel confident that things are moving in the right direction.”
