Barnsley v Bradford: Oakwell new boy Harris aims to shine

The express-paced Cardiff City winger, 22, has joined the Reds on a 93-day loan, taking the club’s number of loan recruits to six, with only five allowed in a match-day squad.

Harris, who had not trained with his team-mates, entered the fray on 65 minutes and despite a quiet bow, he is backing himself to make an impact in the coming weeks.

He said: “I would have liked to have got an assist or a goal preferably. But there’s more than enough time and I have loads of games coming up and I can contribute to the teams success in the future.

“The team did well last year and just missed the play-offs. This season, we can hopefully not just get into the play-offs, but get promoted automatically.”

On his Oakwell move, he added: “Lee (Johnson) said to me personally he’d have loved to have got me down here before it happened.

“When a manager has got faith in you and faith in your ability, it’s a no-brainer.”

Bradford defender Rory McArdle was keen to accentuate the positives after City secured their first clean sheet of the season on Saturday.

He said: “Tuesday couldn’t have been any worse from our point of view. We needed a reaction from that.

“We had to make sure the performance was right and, hopefully, the result would take care of itself.

“We didn’t quite get the win but the clean sheet gives us something to go on.”
