Bradford City 0 Peterborough 1: City plan to bounce back in Cup derby

Phil Parkinson is looking for Bradford City to bounce back from their first defeat of the season as he plots the downfall of West Yorkshire neighbours Leeds United in the Capital One Cup second round at Valley Parade on Wednesday.

The Bradford manager, who is waiting to see whether Derby County will allow on-loan striker Mason Bennett to play, said: “It is a question of picking the right team for Wednesday’s match and putting on a performance that the club and the City of Bradford can be proud of. That is important.”

One player City will be without is influential defender Andrew Davies, who was taken to hospital for an X-ray on a suspected broken arm following a collision with his own goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford, as Pickford tried to punch clear in the 55th minute.

Two minutes after Davies left the field, 21-year-old striker Kyle Vassell scored the goal that settled this tightly fought match, taking a pass from substitute Michael Smith and firing into the far top corner, his fourth goal in four matches, enabling Peterborough to replace City in second place.

“I am disappointed to lose because we have had a fantastic start to the season,” said Parkinson. “I was pleased with how we played, but our crosses were disappointing. We lost our way after the goal, but got it back when Billy Knott went into the centre of midfield, but we couldn’t find that moment of quality to get us back in the game.”
