Bradford City 1 Wimbledon AFC 2: We have to do better, insists Parkinson

PHIL PARKINSON’S wait for a first win as Bradford City manager goes on after Football League newboys AFC Wimbledon marked their first visit to Valley Parade with a win, writes Richard Sutcliffe.

Despite going ahead through a Michael Flynn penalty in the first half, the Bantams slumped to a third home reverse of the season through goals from Christian Jolley and Jack Midson.

It means City continue to languish at the wrong end of League Two, their day being made worse by bottom club Plymouth Argyle claiming a first win of the campaign.

Wimbledon’s crucial second goal came 12 minutes into the second half through a fine finish from Christian Jolley that gave Matt Duke no chance in the Bantams goal.

Mind, City were certainly culpable by failing to close the Dons midfielder down, the upshot being he was able to pick his spot from 20 yards.

The closest Bradford came to snatching an equaliser came when Ritchie Jones shot just over but, in truth, the visitors were full value for the win to leave Parkinson still waiting for his first victory.

“First half, I thought it was a decent performance from us. Probably pretty even-stevens at half time between us and Wimbledon,” said Parkinson.

“In the second half after we conceded their second goal I thought there was just too much acceptance that it wasn’t going to be our day.

“Instead of there being a player that was going to say ‘I’m going to be the player who gets us back in the game’ there was too much of an acceptance that things weren’t going our way and let’s wait for the final whistle.

“I said to the lads after the game that if we’d have lost 1-2 at home to Bristol Rovers then the fans will have probably still clapped them off because they saw a proper performance.

“Today in the second half they didn’t see that. We have got to do better.”
