Bradford City 3 Crewe Alexandra 0: Hanson and Wells earn Bradford rare home win

Manager Phil Parkinson praised his hard-working strike force, James Hanson and Bermudan Nahki Wells, as Bradford City gained their biggest win of the season with a deserved 3-0 victory over Crewe.

Two goals from leading scorer Hanson and a fortunate effort from Wells earned their first home win in the league since they beat Northampton in October.

It extended Bradford’s unbeaten run to four league matches and Parkinson said: “We backed up our win at Southend with a really good performance. Our energy levels were first class and we kept it going. Our closing down all over the field was exceptional and I thought our front two, James Hanson and Nahki Wells really typified that with their performances. They chased everything.”

Bradford got a lucky break in the second minute when goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin’s long clearance was headed goalwards by Hanson.

Crewe’s David Artell headed the ball away only to see it rebound off the head of Wells and loop into the net.

Crewe missed a great chance to equalise when Ricky Ravenhill brought down Nick Powell, but Lee Bell’s penalty rebounded from the underside of the crossbar before being punched to safety by McLaughlin.

Bradford, who lost winger Kyel Reid with a hamstring injury, made them pay for that miss when Hanson struck twice.
