Bradford City 4 Dartford 1: Parkinson hails City for professional effort

Manager Phil Parkinson hailed ‘a very professional performance’ as Bradford City reached the FA Cup third round for only the second time in 11 years after beating Conference side Dartford in a one-sided second-round tie at Valley Parade.

Parkinson, who revealed his preference in tonight’s third round draw is a home tie against Manchester United, said: “We prepared well for the game and got the job done. These games are never easy. Other second-round scores around the country today show how tough these games are, but I thought we were comfortable.”

Bradford went in front after 10 minutes when the Dartford defence failed to deal with Jon Stead’s low cross and Billy Clarke scrambled the ball over the line.

City kept up the pressure and, after a series of near misses, went further head after 31 minutes. Mark Yeates crossed from the left and Stead diverted the ball into the far corner with a right foot shot from eight yards.

The Bantams then put the result beyond doubt with two goals in two minutes. Portuguese winger Filipe Morais scored the third after 58 minutes with a superb right-foot shot from 25 yards after the Dartford defence failed to clear a corner and the skilful Yeates crowned a fine performance after picking up a loose ball on the edge of the penalty area and beating Jason Brown with a curling shot.

Dartford scored a consolation when Lee Noble flicked the ball past Ben Williams from Nathan Collier’s cross.
