Bradford City: Jones’s setback poses question for Parkinson

PHIL PARKINSON is considering a further foray into the transfer market to bolster Bradford City’s midfield ranks.

The Bantams suffered a major blow in pre-season when Ricky Ravenhill was ruled out for two to three months.

But news that Ritchie Jones could also be facing a spell on the sidelines after injuring his ankle last Friday means City are down to the bare bones in a key area.

Ahead of League newcomers Fleetwood Town’s first visit to Valley Parade, manager Parkinson said: “Ritchie is out (of tonight’s game) and we are still waiting to discover the extent of his injury.

“The injury is a real pain, as we already have Ricky Ravenhill out in that position while Nathan Doyle is a bit behind because he joined us a few weeks into pre-season.

“I’ll make a call as to whether we look to bring someone in on loan when I know more about the extent of Ritchie’s injury.”

City have made a double figure tally of signings this summer as Parkinson looks to improve on an 18th-place finish in each of the last two seasons.

Defeat to Gillingham on the opening day was a far from ideal manner in which to kick off the new campaign but Parkinson believes his side are in decent shape.

He said: “We have two home games this week and we want to put something of a marker down. I want us to make a real impression at home so it is great that the pitch is looking so good.

“A lot of work has gone into the pitch this summer because I want us to play at a high tempo this season. The groundsman deserves credit, as do the board for paying for the work.”

Last six games: Bradford City WWLDWL, Fleetwood Town DDLLLD.

Last time: Never met.
