Chesterfield 0 Bradford City 1: Extra work pays off as McMahon scores

Tony McMahon scored the winning goal that sent manager less Chesterfield crashing to their sixth successive defeat.

The win leaves City in eighth place level on points with the play-off places and delighted Parkinson said: “We should have scored three or four. We hit the post twice and their keeper made some great saves.

“We came with the intention of playing high up the pitch, be really positive in our play and we got our rewards. We dominated from the first minute – it was a very good away performance. There was a real maturity in the team.”

Bradford came close to going in front in the 14th minute when Clarke headed headed McMahon’s cross against the post and it needed two great saves in the 51st minute from Chesterfield’s Keighley born keeper Tommy Lee to prevent City from going in front.

First he turned Kyel Reid’s shot against the post before keeping out James Hanson’s header from the resulting corner.

However, he could do nothing to stop McMahon’s winner in the 72nd minute. Clarke darted through the visitors’ defence before supplying the pass for McMahon to score with a right foot shot high into the net from ten yards.

“Tony has been working really hard on his technique in training,” said Parkinson.
