Chesterfield 2 Bradford City 2: Togwell in to cut short Bantams celebrations

Bradford’s bid for a fourth successive league win was thwarted as Chesterfield bagged a stoppage-time equaliser.

The Bantams were heading for a win that would have put some daylight between themselves and the chasing pack when Sam Togwell fired home from close range following a corner in the second added minute.

But while manager Phil Parkinson was left frustrated after watching his side denied victory, he knows City’s play-off hopes remain in their own hands with three games – at home to Rotherham and Burton, and away to Cheltenham – remaining.

“I thought Chesterfield started better than we did,” he said. “But we got through that period and played really well towards the end of the first half and got the goal.

“I thought we completely dominated the second half and Chesterfield offered practically nothing.

“They have had two attempts on goal and scored.

“The corner at the end was a scramble after they had thrown everyone in the box and Togwell has got round the back and stuck it in.

“It was really frustrating to concede like that but we are pleased to be in there and we would certainly have taken this position a few weeks ago.

“It is a strong position to be in and we have two great games now at home to look forward to.”

Nahki Wells had fired City ahead after 36 minutes with his 22nd goal of the season only for Tendayi Darikwa to level with 20 minutes remaining.

Ricky Ravenhill restored City’s advantage from the edge of the area but their celebrations were cut short by Togwell’s late leveller.
