Daley swaps Bradford for Rotherham as Ellison travels opposite way

Peter Taylor has revealed that allowing Omar Daley to leave on loan for Rotherham United was “a tough decision” as Kevin Ellison heads in the opposite direction, writes Richard Sutcliffe.

The Bantams manager was keen to sign Ellison, a player he had at Hull City during the club’s promotion from League One, to bring some much-needed balance to his squad.

An approach to Millers manager Ronnie Moore brought a positive response, though on the condition that Daley headed to the Don Valley Stadium on a similar loan deal until the end of the season.

Bradford chief Taylor said: “They are both good players and both play out wide. I wanted to bring Kevin in because he is left-footed and I feel we have lacked that bit of balance this season.

“I asked Ronnie the question and he said, ‘Why don’t we swap with Omar coming to us?’ It was a tough decision but I agreed.

“Kevin is someone I rate highly. He is not only good in terms of his delivery but also a threat at the far post in the air.

“I think our fans will enjoy watching him in action and I hope he can give us a lift ahead of the run-in.”

Ellison, 31, worked previously under Taylor at Hull five years ago after signing from Chester City for £100,000.

He has been out of the Rotherham side since the arrival of Ian Thomas-Moore from Tranmere Rovers during the January transfer window.

Millers manager Moore paid tribute to Ellison, adding: “He has been fantastic for me.

“Things just haven’t panned out this season, but I have got fantastic respect for him.

“He has got great ability on the ball, an excellent delivery from set pieces, and it will do him good to get some games in.”
