Gillingham 2 Bradford City 0: Akinfenwa punishes Bantams

Peter Jackson saw his first game in charge of Bradford City end in defeat at Gillingham in League Two today.

Goalkeeper Lenny Pidgeley is available after recovering from a bruised thumb to train with the squad on Thursday but Shane Duff is out with a calf problem. He joins Simon Ramsden and Tommy Doherty on the sidelines for Peter Jackson’s bow as City manager.

Kevin Ellison had the chance to put the visitors ahead but keeper Alan Julian pulled off a stunning save.

The Gills broke the deadlock before half-time, Curtis Weston crossing for Adebayo Akinfenwa to nod in.

They doubled their advantage after the restart when Weston fired home from 25-yards, and Julian preserved their lead by saving Tom Adeyemi’s late effort.
