Glasgow Rangers’ Glenn Middleton eager to prove himself at Bradford City

Bantams players are currently operating in a state of lock-down with training suspended indefintely due to the coronavirus outbreak.

There will be no football played until April 30 at the 
earliest, but when 2019-20 does eventually get back underway, the Scotland Under-21 international is determined to make the most of his opportunity in League Two.

“I’m desperate to really put my mark down and show everyone what I’m capable of on a football pitch,” said Middleton, who has made just two starts since arriving at Valley Parade at the end of January.

“I’m still learning, I’m still young, but at the same time I’m desperate to play football – but that’s up to me, I need to put in the performances to show the manager so that he can trust me to do so.

“I’ve got high expectations of myself, which is why you play for big clubs who have high expectations of their players and it’s down to me to put performances on every week.

“I am raring to go and get some games under my belt,” added Middleton.

Glasgow-born Middleton came through the youth ranks at Northampton Town and Norwich City before eventually returning home to join Rangers in 2018.

He was handed his competitive debut by Steven Gerrard later that year and has been described by the Gers boss and ex-Liverpool legend as a “great impact player.”

Middleton, of course, will aspire to be much more than that, and believes that his time with City will help aid his development.

“I’ve been on two loans this season and although at times it might not have been smooth sailing for me, I’ve definitely learned a lot,” the 20-year-old added.

“Every league that you play in has its different challenges, I think it’s just about how quickly, as a player, you can adapt.

“I think that’s one of the benefits of going out on loan as a young player, learning all of these things.

“On and off the pitch, you’re gonna have to learn to deal with things, but that’s what it’s all about, developing as a player and especially as a person in different situations that you come across.”

The suspension of 2019-20 came with City ninth in League Two, four points shy of the play-offs.

Their current position is one that will be deemed unacceptable by most connected with the club, but, as far as the Bantams’ aims this season are concerned, Middleton is clear in his own mind about what needs to be achieved.

“This is a massive club in a position that it shouldn’t be in,” he said.

“We all have our goals and we all want to be promoted this season, simple as that. End of.”
