Hereford United v Bradford City: Jackson set to complete the circle

EDGAR STREET may not be the most remarkable or distinguished of football grounds.

But for Peter Jackson, the home of Hereford will always have special significance due to it being the venue where, as a 17-year-old, he made his professional debut in a 3-1 defeat for Bradford City.

Now, 33 years on, Jackson is hoping Hereford can be the place where the job he set out to do when appointed the interim manager at Valley Parade is finally accomplished – securing Football League survival.

If Bradford do claim the single point required to be certain of safety then Jackson will have strengthened his hand in terms of securing the job on a permanent basis.

He said: “My target when I came in was to keep the club safe and I have almost done that. As for what happens after the last game, I don’t know.”

City could still survive today even if Hereford win due to Barnet, Lincoln City and Northampton Town all having to win their own games to keep Jackson’s men within touching distance.
